Lost

I lost you.
A tide of people
And your hand slipped.
Ordinarily I would swim
But this time the pull was
Strong and drag hard.

I lost you.
Cried quiet all
The way home and
The knot in my chest and
Cross in my twisted fingers
Couldn’t bring you back.

Your bed stays cold
And your clothes unworn.
There was nothing,
Nothing of you there at all.
